Organise a day full of energy, a place to meet. A day where people can show their innovations, call for cooperation or where people can connect to inspiring initiatives. The Innovation Expo is about creativity, reflecting, thoroughness and the bridge to our future. The day offers opportunities for plenary sessions, exhibition, workshops, speed dating, demonstrations and networking moments. This was the briefing issued by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment and Ministry of Interior and Kingdom Relations of the Netherlands.
The Innovation Expo took place during the Dutch Presidency of the European Union, on April 14th 2016. We demonstrated practical solutions to complex urban issues, arising from the theme ‘Sustainable Urban Delta’. The creative idea arose during the meeting at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment, where all five elected event companies were present. Instead of losing energy and endless hours of work to win the pitch, the event companies proposed to start working together. The Event Consortium Innovation Expo was born. With this ‘dream team’ it was possible to organise the event at the requested venue, although part of it was a construction area and the other part was open for the public. In this way we could spend the entire budget on quality.
The client was excited about the immense live and online exposure the event generated. #IE2016 was trending topic on Twitter. The event was sold out and there were 60% more visitors than the previous years. The error-free roll-out of the seminar program and the visits of 38 EU ministers and international VIP’s, was highly appreciated. Also 5 Green Deals were signed by the minister. One of the biggest challenges was dealing with the situation at the Overhoeks Area. Therefore a lot of emphasis was put on safety and security. Because it rains very often in April, all activities for 5.500 visitors had to take place in converted areas. Nonetheless a full seminar programme was run on the fairground, with 110 national and international speakers presenting 30 different sessions.
